I am increasingly in awe of the vision and legacy created by the Grundy family in setting up the Grundy Educational Trust back in 1992. To date, the Trust has now awarded circa £803,000 in support to 220 unique students, helping to fund around 140 MSc, 50 PhD and 30 medical qualifications.

As a scholarship recipient in 1998 and in more recent years as a Board member, I get a front‑row seat to the difference this makes. These are talented postgraduate students in STEM fields who have secured places on demanding programmes but need support with living costs to take up those offers. The Trust steps into that gap so financial circumstance is less likely to be the deciding factor.

Behind each number is a story – a clinician in training, a researcher pushing the boundaries of their field, an engineer or scientist destined for leadership in industry, public service or academia. Being able to help remove some of the financial pressure so they can focus on their work is our privilege.

If you know a UK postgraduate STEM student at one of our partner universities, or work in a department that supports them, please keep an eye out for calls for Grundy Educational Trust nominations and share them widely. And if you are a past award holder, I’d love to connect and hear where your journey has taken you.
